This is La Vie en Rose (Welcome to the World, Claire!)

Our Claire Rose was born Thursday, May 25th 2017 at 1:35 p.m., 6 lbs. 1.7 oz. 20.5 inches. She came into world quickly and quietly--her delivery was the smoothest I've had out of my 3. I'll write the whole story soon.

The first thing I noticed about her was her rosy complexion and strawberry blond hair. I immediately thought of Rose, which we had talked about early on as a middle name. Instead we'd already picked out Hope, but as Ben was about to write it on the birth certificate form the next day, he stopped and asked me if I was sure, and I knew it had to be Rose. Claire Rose.

It just fits her. My only fear is that she'll turn out to be a red-headed tomboy like me, and hate me for giving her such a girly name.

She was so peaceful the first time I held her--just like she was the moment she was born, and just how she is now. She's a sensitive soul, though, our little damsel in distress. She has the biggest eyes with the biggest tears! But she's easily comforted, and she's amazingly (almost alarmingly!) calm as long as she's fed and held and loved. She looks us straight in the eyes when we talk to her, and her eyes are just piercing.

Her brother and sister are obsessed with her. They want to hold her and kiss her and talk to her constantly--they love her to death. (Or they would, if we didn't keep a really close eye on them.)

My favorite things about her are her big eyes, tiny rosebud lips, and her curly fringe right on top of her head. She looks a lot like her brother and sister (even more her brother, I think), but she has her own look, too. She's long and slender, unlike her stockier siblings. And she looks like she has ruddy, rosy tone with reddish hair. It's not brilliantly red, but at the same time, she's not really a brunette, and she's not really blonde. Only time will tell.

It's been almost 2 weeks already, and we're still not sleeping much, but we're getting there. It takes time to get the hang of eating, sleeping and pooping all at once! We could only manage two out of the three the first few days and she lost a few ounces of course, but now she's growing right before our eyes--that's no exaggeration--and she's already well over her birth weight by half a pound!

I'm always surprised how much I enjoy the newborn phase (thankfully, my "baby blues" take a few months to hit) and with Claire it's no different--except that I don't remember being this exhausted with Caleb or Lydia. This time I feel so anxious, too, to know what she's going to be like as she gets older...Will she be easy-going? Will her hair really be red? What will her voice be like? I hope she has freckles!

With the way she's growing, I guess we won't have to wait long.

Welcome to the world, Claire Rose! We're so happy you're in it. This is la vie en rose, as they say...life is just rosy with you.
