Life with Lydia: 3 Months Old

So this post brings us up-to-date with Lydia's monthly mini-photoshoots, after an untimely (is it ever not?) computer crash. In case you missed it, you can also see her two month photos, plus one month and newborn. Can you believe she'll be four months old in another week?

Life with Lydia: 1 Month Old

In case you missed it, I posted Lydia's newborn photos, and as promised, here are pictures from her monthly mini-photoshoot at 1 month old (stay tuned for 2 and 3 month pictures to bring us up-to-date after our computer crash). This is a monthly tradition I started with Caleb, and that I'm continuing with Lydia. Maybe one day I'll put these into a slick photo book, but for now I like posting them here on the blog to look back on, and to share with all of you, of course!

Not-Quite-Professional Newborn Photos

I love pictures (except the ones I’m in...anybody else?). It’s one of the reasons I bought a DSLR from my grandpa, who happens to be a semi-retired, award-winning professional photographer. (Shameless plug: check out his books Rock City Barns: A Passing Era and Georgia: A Backroads Portrait by David Jenkins. His work is the best of art and nature and the American South, mixed in with fascinating history and real-life narratives.)

So, through Caleb’s first year, I did a monthly mini-photoshoot with him using my Lumix Panasonic DSLR. That camera MUST have some of my grandpa’s award-winning magic in it, because those pictures turned out way better than they should have. That little Lumix has won my heart.

Truth be told, I'm no pro (obviously), and those photoshoots were more work than fun, but now I’m so glad I was able to capture how he grew and how his personality emerged over those first 12 months. I knew I wanted to do something similar with Lydia, just simpler--shorter shoots with no props. And the reason I DIY'ed Lydia's newborn photoshoot was so that I could have at least a few pictures of just her, which we didn't really get from our family photoshoot (although I love those pictures too).

I’m playing catch-up now, since I’ve been taking her pictures every month but had no way to edit them, thanks to my computer crashing. So starting with her newborn photos in this post, I’ll be sharing all the pictures from Lydia’s photoshoots so far, and I hope to make it a monthly tradition, the same way I did with Caleb.

Last, I want to thank my friend Darilyn Jeter at Darilyn Jeter Photography for editing these newborn photos. I think they turned out just beautiful! Of course, Lydia’s beautiful anyway, so I know I can’t take any credit, but between Darilyn’s editing skills and my grandpa’s magical camera, these photos are practically professional, right?
